The Tucson Karate Club trains in one of the five major Karate styles. Introduced to Japan by Master Gichin Funakoshi in 1922, Shotokan soon became quite popluar, leading Master Funakoshi to establish his first school, or Dojo, in Tokyo in 1936. Our club is a memeber of the International Shotokan Federation, (ISKF), under the direction of Sensei Teruyuki Okazaki, who was a direct student of both Master Funakoshi and also Sensei Masatoshi Nakayama.
Our sessions are comprised of Kihon, Kumite, and Kata practice. That is, we first train basic standing and moving techniques, progress to fighting simulations and end with the models of defense and counter attacks that distinguish our style.
We regularly participate in regional and national tournaments, however , our first intention is to provide the individual with a training plan that fits his or her needs. Thus, our interpretation of the martial art of Shotokan Karate is to develop a lifelong, healthy practice.
Further questions about Shotokan may be directed to our Chief Karate Instructor, Mr. Enrique Olivares at firstname.lastname@example.org
